Yoga Syllabus
PE 1
A state mandated course for Freshman that includes the following components:
· Social and Emotional Activities
· Daily, vigorous exercise
· Units:
· Ultimate Frisbee
· Wiffleball
· Flag Football
· Fitness
· Softball
· Volley tennis
PE 2
Emphasizes health-related fitness components and developing the skills and habits necessary for a lifetime of activity and wellness.
· Team Sports
· Fitness
Strength & Conditioning
The course will focus on the principles of general strength training & conditioning. Students who take this course will engage in activities and exercise that promote improvements in:
Muscle Group (Pre and Post test)
Circuits (Stations)
Various Lower body Exercises (leg press, squats, leg extensions etc.)
Various Upper body Exercises (Bench press, Bicep DB curls, Shoulder Press, Lat Pulldowns)
Max Outs
This course will combine the power of the mind, body, and spirit in yoga. Students will participate in strength building and core building exercises, through muscle extension as well as breathing techniques. Students will practice a variety of techniques from yoga, as well as teach students meditation and concentration. Students will see improved skeletal alignments as well as increased muscular strength and increased flexibility, while reflecting on present mindfulness through reflective journaling.

Physical Fitness Testing (FITNESSGRAM)
The primary goal of FITNESSGRAM testing is to assist students in establishing lifelong habits of regular physical activity. The FITNESSGRAM is conducted in pre-test in October and post test in April.
The pre-tested will establish baseline fitness levels and set personal goals.
The FITNESSGRAM tests 5 main fitness areas that represent 5 components of fitness:
Aerobic Capacity
Muscular Strength
Muscular Endurance
Flexibility
In all PE classes students will have their first opportunity to achieve 5 out of 5 Healthy Fitness Zones.
As FITNESSGRAM is a state-mandated test.
The 5 FITNESSGRAM required tests areas are:
Aerobic Capacity (PACER, One-Mile Run)
Abdominal Strength and Endurance (Curl-Ups)
Trunk Extensor Strength and Flexibility (Trunk Lift)
Upper Body Strength (Push-Ups)
Flexibility (Back-Saver Sit and Reach, Shoulder Stretch)
YOGA
If you are enrolled in the Yoga course the you are required to wear yoga pants/fitted pants, or biker shorts that are below the knee. A PE shirt or black or white shirt as well.
